It’s been a great year for Navigation Games.
It’s Giving Tuesday, and we would love to receive your donation here.
Our #1 focus is bringing orienteering to children in school.
In Cambridge, we continue to support the 6-class Physical Education (PE) orienteering unit delivered in all 12 public schools to nearly 500 children. For the 2023-24 school year, we are introducing a 5-class PE unit at the high school, and an orienteering PE class in all 5 middle schools. We also provided coach support, activity plans and maps for the spring and fall middle school orienteering teams, and put on the end-of-season events (relay races in the spring and the Vampire-O in the fall). Speaking of the Vampire-O, 173 people attended, and the event was sponsored by the office of Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui!
We started working with the Public Schools of Brookline, both in PE and middle school math. We provide ongoing support to the Sunita Williams elementary school in Needham.
We presented our orienteering curriculum at numerous conferences, in Colorado, Wisconsin, Massachusetts - and online to member country federations of the International Orienteering Federation. We love introducing this amazing activity to motivated educators.
We released the beginning orienteering kit, which is for sale on our website, and features animals drawn by graphic artist Marina Carlson, who first worked with Navigation Games as a summer volunteer back in 2016.
We could not do this without our interns and staff. Nuno from Mozambique helped deliver our school programs. Tom and Julian from France, along with Cantibridgian Jackson, ran the summer program for teens. New volunteers Sarah and Frances are helping with programs, fundraising and kits. Charlie updated the EasyGec program to work better with our lesson plans. Thank you all!
Some initiatives we are hoping to take on in 2024 - feel free to write to us and vote for your favorites!
Bring orienteering to PE in more school districts!
Publish videos for educators alongside our online curriculum.
Offer orienteering clubs with training in our activities, to accompany purchase of our kit.
Start a project to collect and maybe even implement research showing the impact on children of skill development in orienteering, spatial relationship reasoning, and navigation.
Please think of Navigation Games as you make your donations to support nonprofits this giving season! And remember that many companies give extra matches to donations on Giving Tuesday, so after donating, please ask for that match! Thank you!
