Spend three months in the US teaching orienteering and practicing your English!

Navigation Games, a non-profit organization based in Cambridge, MA is seeking young orienteering enthusiasts (aged 19+) who want to spend a few months in the US teaching orienteering to children. Housing and meals are provided to volunteers and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to race and train yourself in exciting northeastern terrain. The main qualification is that you are enthusiastic about orienteering and kids.

When: April-June, 2018 (approximately 90 days)

Where: You will live in a house in Cambridge with other orienteers. You may share a room. Everyone helps out with meals and cleanup.

What you’ll do: volunteer time as an assistant coach for school teams; teach after school classes for children aged 7-11; help to organize “learn-to-orienteer” public events; make small maps; and generally be excited and get the word out about orienteering!

This is a volunteer opportunity and there is no compensation provided.

2017 resident volunteers with friends after some corn maze orienteering!

Fall 2017 volunteer Violeta Feliciano made a video of her experience in the US while working with Navigation Games.

Our three months in the United States have come to an end and, without a doubt, it’s been one of the best experiences of my life! It's hard to summarize it in a 10 minutes video, but it's a good overview, so check it out! We traveled to 10 states, enjoyed incredible maps and terrains, taught orienteering in more than 10 schools, met incredible people, improved our English (or at least we tried), experienced American culture from the inside, and more. Many of these experiences wouldn’t have been possible without Navigation Games. I’d like to specifically thank Barbara Bryant who is doing incredible work for orienteering in the US; Gregory Éamon Ahlswede, for all his help; Juanma Merida, for being my travel partner; Ethan Childs, for his help in the classes; and to everyone we’ve met along the way! Now we’re going to enjoy our last day in Philadelphia, stuff our faces with turkey on Thanksgiving, and then it’s back to the routine in Onil. See you soon, americanos!
