Navigation Games

We teach kids to orienteer!

Summer Friday Games

With the summer approaching, Navigation Games is excited to get outdoors and spend time in the forest. And this summer, we're inviting you to join us! Every Friday from July 12 - August 9, Navigation Games will be hosting a fun, forest navigation-based activity to help our MSYEP employees and members of the public develop their navigation skills while also having a great time. These games are designed to be beginner friendly, promote teamwork, and challenge participants' critical thinking skills. To sign up to play, follow this link. For more information, contact Ethan Childs, ethan@navigationgames.org or 802-324-8982.

See you in the forest!

Call for Volunteers

Navigation Games is looking for community members to deliver some of our class curriculums, and to serve as coaches for school teams. If you are interested in these opportunities, or if you are looking for other ways to get involved with orienteering in Cambridge, take a look at our volunteer opportunities!

Who is Navigation Games?

Navigation Games is a Cambridge-based non-profit with the mission of providing fun, education, and active outdoor experiences through the sport of orienteering. We believe orienteering is one of the best ways to not only encourage physical activity for youth, but also to provide experiences and an environment where they can develop important life skills as well. Our goal is to give every child in Cambridge the opportunity to experience orienteering, and provide additional programming and events for youth and community members who are interested in trying out our favorite sport!

What is Orienteering?

Orienteering is a racing sport where participants use a map to find a series of checkpoints. There is no mandatory route, so it’s up to the participants to determine where they need to go and how they are going to get there. While orienteering is a competitive sport, many people take part simply for the joy of being outside and exercising their brains. It’s a fun, healthy, and educational activity for all ages and experience levels!

What do we Do?

Navigation Games develops and delivers lesson plans, education, programming, coaching, and events to schools, organizations, and the public. We have experience from working with schools to deliver programs and activities to hundreds of students from all age levels and backgrounds. We have created and coached 5 upper schools teams within Cambridge, host the Cambridge City Orienteering Championships, and coached the 2018 Junior National High School Varsity Championship team. We also conduct private events from birthday parties to corporate team-building programs.

In other words, wherever there is someone who wants to try orienteering, Navigation Games is there to make it happen.

Orienteering is a sport where participants find checkpoints marked on a map. In other words, it's an awesome version of a scavenger hunt that's fun for all ages, and can be done casually or competitively. There are many different ways to orienteer, and many different activities that involve orienteering skills. Read more about our various navigation games.
